Judikins WaterColor Brush Set
Review by Barbara Rossman 1/4/01
I must admit upfront that I have not proven to myself that I can paint with watercolors - but seemingly, the more I practice, the better I like my finished product. It's all about values and technique but applying that to brush and canvas is, for me, harder than I can express in this review. So, I was skeptical of trying the Judkins WaterColor Brush set because of these fears. Surprise, surprise - I was pleased with the outcome.
The brush set comes with two brushes, fine and medium. For this project I used the fine.
I found it odd that there were no instructions on the packaging - they make the assumption you know how to use it, fill it and/or clean it.... so.. I just took it into the basin to fill it. The opening for the water to flow into the container is very tiny but if you hold it under the stream of water and squeeze the bottom of the container, the water fills the brush's cavity.
Using my inexpensive Prang water colors, I moistened the colors and then dipped the WaterColor Brush in and began painting. To my amazement, I could move color around for shading perfectly. I could pick up a large amount of color and gently blend it to perfection!! Contrasting light to dark was very easy. Hey, I was liking this a lot.
This sample is a printed computer graphic from Art Today, the entire project colored with the WaterColor Brush, the white in the pillars was made with an Extreme Gel Pen, the light silver design is a rubber stamp and finally the entire graphic has been stamped with Metallic Gold using a Magenta Stamp that looks like a wire design. The background is watercolor on glossy paper.
I highly recommend this product and hope you have as much fun with it as I did!
