Domino Tips
(my notes)
(Samples pictures are listed above)
by Barbara Rossman
I have experimented with painting on dominos
- an undercoating of gesso
worked best for me. You can also rough up the surface and stuff adheres
better. Embossing works great and holds it together quite well.
Acrylic paint will give you about the same undercoat.
I baked the domino with clay on it - turned out great
Melted friendly plastic on them and then stamped into them
Use my hot glue on the domino - then stamped into it.
Had to re-glue once dried it fell off!l
Covered them with tissue - decoupage of sorts
Used inkjet transfer paper and ironed on some images
Used acetate and rubbed on some images
Used packaging tape for transfer.
I used brass stencils and perm ink with a stipple brush
Glued on textured wall paper and then painted it with Lumiere
Glue that worked best - E6000 - but inexpensive white craft glue worked too.
Hand painted a scene on one (too tedious for me)
Made a tiny accordion book - pages from the computer,
book was made from dominos, with pages holding it together,
hand painted the domino cover and back (this was
the black wooden kind)
Didn't finished a hinged one but bought the hinges - drill bit pooped out
Didn't care for the domino back side painted or decorated. I prefer to leave
it just as is so it is recognizable as a domino!
I did paint the edges - some with Lumiere, some
with a leafing pen.
Things I didn't try:
Using postage stamps (used stamps) and doing travel scenes
Using the domino with game pieces - cards and dice, etc.
Making jewelry
Using the dominos as feet/hinges for a box
Using the dominos to create a tile look (4 dominos- each stamped with one
part of a design) (saw this on Carol Duvalls)
Didn't try finger nail polish on them, but thought about it.
Used Diamond Glaze and Future floor wax for sealers.
